First Meeting of the IEEE Education Society chapter Brazil in 2004
May 14, 2004 – São Vicente, SP

The Meeting of the IEEE Education Society chapter Brazil was called to order by Prof. Claudio da Rocha Brito at 3:00 PM on May 14, 2004 at COPEC - Council of Researches in Education and Sciences’ Office at Rua Frei Gaspar, 931 – 64 in São Vicente – São Paulo state. Prof. Claudio da Rocha Brito gave the welcome and introductions of all attendees followed.

It had the presence of some few members of the chapter and the meeting was very beneficial.

After the official opening of the meeting by the President of the Chapter, he began with the exposition about the results of the 5th international conference organized by the Chapter: WCETE’2004 _ World Congress on Engineering and Technology Education. Some subjects were discussed followed by some suggestions from the members that were present at the meeting.

The subjects were:
  • The homepage of IEEE-EdSoc Brazil

  • The activities that could be developed

  • Exchange with the future chapters of Portugal and Spain

Prof. Claudia Giovedi (USP- University of São Paulo) suggested that the homepage could be directed to the young people principally.

Prof. Claudio Motta (ITA – Technological Institute of Aeronautics) suggested that the homepage could have a content of general information about IEEE-EdSoc in Portuguese.

Prof. Edmilson Roberto Braga (CEFET - Federal Center of Technological Education) suggested that we developed during the “Engineering Week” that happens in every College of Engineering at least one day with invited speakers.

Prof. Dr. Claudio da Rocha Brito (President of IEEE-EdSoc Brazil) told about the future possibilities of developing exchange with the IEEE-EdSoc Brazil with the Ones of Portugal and Spain that are still in process of opening. The members very well received the idea.

Prof. Melany M. Ciampi (Vice-President of IEEE-EdSoc Brazil) suggested that the chapter could do a massive marketing of it to gain more members and starting with the members present at the meeting, inviting some colleagues to become one member of IEEE-EdSoc Brazil.

The discussions were around ways to enhance the number of members and the development of some activities. For start a list of present members should be delivered to the other members to have more communications.

The homepage is in process of designing and will be located in COPEC homepage, which also will pay for the expenses of design and maintenance for one year.

The members asked about the membership fees and the President of the chapter explained that EdSoc Brazil does not take any percentage of the membership fee. It goes totally to the IEEE-EdSoc in USA.

Next meeting of IEEE Education Society Brazil Meeting was scheduled at November 12, 2004 by the present members who all agreed with it chose the date. It will take place at the same place that is the Head Quarter of IEEE-EdSoc Brazil.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 PM.


Second Meeting of the IEEE Education Society chapter Brazil in 2004

November 12, 2004 – São Vicente, SP

The Meeting of the IEEE Education Society chapter Brazil was called to order by Prof. Claudio da Rocha Brito at 3:00 PM on May 14, 2004 at COPEC - Council of Researches in Education and Sciences’ Office at Rua Frei Gaspar, 931 – 64 in São Vicente – São Paulo state. Prof. Claudio da Rocha Brito gave the welcome and introductions of all attendees followed.

 It had the presence of some members of the chapter and other non-members that also enriched the meeting that was very beneficial.

After the official opening of the meeting by the President of the Chapter, he began with the exposition about the results of the 4th national conference that had the technical cooperation of the Chapter: CBPAS’2004 - Brazilian Congress on Environmental Researches and Healthy. Some subjects were discussed followed by some suggestions from the members that were present at the meeting.

The subjects were:
  • The homepage of IEEE-EdSoc Brazil

  • The activities that could be developed

  • Activities in joint venture with IEEE-EdSoc Argentina

The discussions were principally about the homepage that is being developed and that was showed to the present people. After some discussions some modifications were suggested and it will be on air at the beginning of January 2005. It will be located in COPEC homepage, which also will pay for the expenses of design and maintenance for one year.

The general opinion is that the homepage could have a content of general information about IEEE-EdSoc and of course a link to IEEE.

Prof. Melany M. Ciampi (Vice-President of IEEE-EdSoc Brazil) told about the future possibilities of developing exchange with the IEEE-EdSoc Brazil with the one of Argentina that is closer to Brazil and that some members showed interest in exchange experiences with EdSoc Brazil.

A massive marketing of chapter to gain more members have started with the members by promoting technical meetings in the Universities. The first one will take place at Santa Cecilia University with the invited speaker Prof. J.R. Abbud who will present a lecture about “The first Solar Swimming pool to produce Electricity of Brazil” with the exposition of the first prototype installed in Santos City. It will happen on November 19 2004.

A list of present members was delivered to the other members to have more communications.
      
The members asked about the membership fees and the President of the chapter explained that it is not possible to be an IEEE-EdSoc member without being a member of IEEE. The issue for some people is the high cost of IEEE membership even though they receive the magazine.

The present members who all agreed with it chosen date scheduled next meeting of IEEE-Education Society Brazil Meeting at March 15 2005. It will take place at the Campus Dom Idílio of Catholic University of Santos.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 PM.


Special Meeting (Technical Meeting) of the IEEE Education Society chapter Brazil in 2004
November 19, 2004 – Santos, SP

The Technical Meeting of the IEEE Education Society chapter Brazil took place at Santa Cecilia University with the invited speaker Prof. J.R. Abbud.

Prof. Claudio da Rocha Brito gave the welcome and introductions of all attendees and followed by the lecture about “The first Solar Swimming pool to produce Electricity of Brazil” that also counted with the exposition of its first prototype installed in Santos City.

It happened on November 19 2004 and had the presence of some IEEE-EdSoc members as well as a public of around 120 participants, among them teachers and students not only of engineering but also of physics, environment, biology and chemistry.

The lecture was a success and it extended the time due to the many questions when the visit to the prototype.

The next year schedule of Technical Meetings will start on March when the Colleges start the school year.
